Kyra Bandy was wading about ten feet away from the shore of Driessen Beach on Hilton Head Island South Carolina, when she was bitten on the foot be a shark.
The 7-year-old was standing in an inner tube when a possible 3 to 4 ft bull shark grabbed the girl’s foot and pulled her under water October 14th.
She was playing with her 3-year-old brother when her mother saw her disappear into the water.
Her mother, Sentra Waddell Bandy told rtv6 “I thought that the waves had knocked her over because they were kind of strong and she came up crying and I thought saltwater had just got in her nose because it had just right before that and when she came back up, I saw the look on her face and she was screaming, ‘Daddy help me,’ and I knew something was wrong,” And he (Kyra’s father)jerked her up out of the water and when he was carrying her out I saw all the blood coming from her foot and panic mode kicked in.”
The shark only released the girl when her father Brian Bandy pulled her from the water. Teeth marks could be seen around her left foot and required surgery to repair tendon and nerve damage.
Luckily she will heal and the family plans to stay away from the water for awhile.
Hopefully she will be able to return when she is older.
